GW2 sounds exciting, but after so much disappointment with GW1 with it's history of overnerfage of certain skills and overbuffing of others, along with decrimenting updates...
... I don't know if I should pour the heart of my interest into this game. I loved GW1 in its youth, but when it got old its sweet goodness decayed to me. I'll most likely buy GW2, but I fear that history will indeed repeat itself once again.

I would be wary of diablo comparsion.
Diablo combat ends up being one-button wonder in later game. (pew pew, spiraling hammer, pew pew, spiraling icy orb, pew pew, autoaimingmachinegunbow). It has rich combo options, but you would only ever use anything else than "biggest button" if you run to monster immune to it or if you simly do not have it yet.
Reason is that reward for comboing is lackluster as you have to use your not-biggest button to combo and that ends up being overall loss of throughtput.
It is game of "X-build" where X is only one skill.

Sounds good so far. Though I'm a bit more cautious of press releases promising stuff since Fable and Fable 2 nowadays. Guess we'll see as more is revealed.

I can't wait to take an oakheart's branch and smash him with it. I guess it'll be like Wind Waker where you can steal weapons? :P

But why would you bludgeon wood with wood when you got an axe, it just does not make sense?
The only thing not mentioned was a cover-system. Other than that, you have your attacks, dodges, vehicles to take over, comic style physics of people thrown around being hit by twobyfours, and who could forget the Beegrenade. That really sound a lot like lessons from fps games. Gears of Guilds here we come.

Take branch. Add fire. Hit enemy. Set wood enemy on fire. More effective than an axe at times. That's one thing I can safely guess considering archers can use an elementalist's fire wall to make fire arrows.

^So I guess they're going to try to pretend that sentient-tree fire ele's never existed...Otherwise your scenario could never occur..

I don't know all the other skills and elements they tend to include. Give them to me and I'll hand you more.

Don't get me wrong, it's a bloody good idea, and would be great to see in action. This time round though, I'm sure you'd probably agree, I'd like to see silly stuff like the aforementioned fire ele tree just be left out, as the silliness it is. That as well as the bows without strings, longbows that are recurves, recurves that are longbows, longbows that are compound bows, etc..
I'm all for a fantasy world, but there's fantasy and then there's stupidity. Same as there's a reason bows have bowstrings, and you need one on your bow. Arrows drawn from nowhere is far easier to believe than a bow that doesn't even have a string IMO..

This week we’re celebrating the 5th anniversary of the release of Guild Wars. Coincidentally, this year also marks the 10th anniversary of the founding of our company.

Hmmm, interesting... And yet people are complaining how long it is taking them to get GW2 out...

So what if it does? Never mind the years I got out of GW1... if I get even 6 months of enjoyment out of GW2, I'll consider that a resounding success.
No games last forever, and I don't expect them to - they all go stale sooner or later. All I hope for in a game, is that it entertains me for a "decent" amount of time. I've played some games that lasted me only a very short time (some of the Prince of Persia games spring to mind)... but I still enjoyed them immensely and considered them excellent value for money.

Drop your perfectly good axe, pick up a severed branch and try beating a tree to death with it? So warriors are going to be moronic imbeciles in GW2? Meh, somethings never change... I attack the gazebo!

Pick up Branch
Done. Branch gives you a splinter.
Hit Gazebo with Branch
Mighty Gazebo laughs at your puny attack
Throw Branch at Gazebo
Done. Gazebo's paint has been chipped, making Gazebo very angry. Your splinter becomes infected. Your arm develops gangrene and falls off. You die.

Article was great. ...except for the bit about pushing someone into the firewall.
If I could summon the friggin thing anywhere I want, then why don't I just cast Attunement for the slow/snare hex and then summon the firewall directly under my opponent? Why the extra step? That's like going Hammy-Storm when I could just go 12-Scythe instead and 2 shot everything in sight.
Meanwhile the discussion on Gw2Guru was mind numbingly retarded.
I was tempted to register just to tell them how retarded they sound.
But at this point it would be a drop in the bucket. They're beyond reasoning with...

I understood the Oak Branch mechanic to be like when barrels or knives drop in Double Dragon. The leg gives you a weapon with DPS that either scales to your level, or is good for the zone it drops on so that it is always useful. It has increased attack range and knocks back/interrupts/knocks down with every hit to make up for losing your main weapon and use of most of your weapon skills.
Kind of like a bundle item which can be used to fight, but doesn't actually get added to your inventory or anything like that.
As far as GW2 being grind free, I wish I could say I have confidence to say this is not some lame ass marketing stunt, "our game has no grind." Grind isn't fun, it's just poor game design to trap you in a maze for hours more and make you feel like you've done something so you don't complain and buy the next product. If this guy will admit titles, EotN and to a lesser extent Nightfall had some of the most grind intense game play most players will ever come across(reputation grind in WoW is the biggest grind and GW rep titles were harder), maybe I would believe when he says no grind in GW2. At the moment I don't believe the company understands what "no grind" means.

Or, you don't understand what "optional" means.
If you don't want to grind, you don't have to.

Obviously, you can just have worse skills and so on.
You can also not get into parties which require you to grind.
It is optional after all.
In fact, playing GW is optional too.

if you already have a magician able to conjure up fire from nothing, then why the whole commotion with an Axe and a branch? Just set the thing on fire. You don't need to chop off a branch from a tree to set it on fire.

Modern games' #1 method for getting around this is actually cooldowns. And as pointed out the Diablo2 engine has rich combo potential, you just have to tweak some numbers to bring it out as an optimal playstyle, 90% of it being ignored is that you need to dump 20 in your most used skills. But yeah I didn't mean to suggest 1x skill spam, more that the game is sliding into arcadey land rewarding fast movement and timing. Plus right now based on concept art I don't think there will be a pure healer class, which is arguably another Diablo landmark. (No need for support classes, no focus on balanced parties, can do reasonably well with any class mix)
